FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

Local Area Community Service Organization Keeps Dogs out of Shelters

Dog-Harmony, Inc., a local not-for-profit dog education and rescue, has been providing services to the residents of Okaloosa and Walton County since 2014.  A volunteer-run organization, this group of passionate volunteers provides Safe Doggy Bite Prevention programs to children and seniors in the community as part of their efforts to reduce the dog shelter population.  In order to meet the needs of the community, Dog-Harmony, Inc. is asking the public for financial support to continue to provide books and other materials offered at the classes.  During the month of November, Dog-Harmony, Inc. will hold Safe Doggy Bite Prevention classes each Monday at West Bay Elementary, and at Whole Foods Market on Sunday, November 20th at 1:00 pm on the patio.  In December, Safe Doggy classes will be offered at Van Butler Elementary each Monday until the holidays.

Early training is important for our children to teach them the keys to pet care and communication, so they may have safe and happy interactions with animals.  In our local community of Bay County, Animal Control reported almost 1,000 cases of dog bites in the past two years, with only 14 of the dogs deemed dangerous.  Dog-Harmony has a successful bite-prevention workshop program that its volunteers take into the community to teach children the basics.  This program is so important that Dog-Harmony offers it free of charge. The organization hopes to be able to take the program in the next year to every school in Bay, Walton, and Okaloosa counties.

Dog-Harmony, Inc. is a volunteer-run non-profit organization, made up of passionate and determined problem-solving dog lovers who want to make a difference.  The goal is to build healthy relationships between humans and dogs to improve the lives of both and reduce the number of dogs that are placed in animal shelters.

These individuals work together to accomplish the mission of creating lifelong relationships by providing personalized and ongoing education, support, and training for people and dogs. The key element for these relationships is education – of humans and dogs, no matter what age.  That is what makes Dog-Harmony different; the focus is on training and support before, during and after one adopts a dog to make sure the people and dogs in the family have the tools they need to build a successful life together.  Adopting a dog is not the end of the relationship – it is just the beginning.
